Secret Ingredient Brownies

Do you love brownies and eat them right out of the pan after they come out of the oven? Who doesn’t love warm, gooey brownies? I do, I do! I made these brownies and added a secret ingredient to them that the recipe called for. In a million years you probably wouldn’t guess the ingredient…BEETS! The beets made the brownies very moist and you definitely couldn’t taste them.

Recipe adapted from Vegetarian Times

Ingredients

  • 1 – 15 ounce can beets, rinsed and drained
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup sugar (recipe called for 1 cup)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • semi-sweet chocolate chips for sprinkling

Directions

  1. In food processor, place beets and melted butter. Mix together until creamy – this takes a few minutes.
  2. In bowl, mix together sugar, flour, cocoa powder.
  3. In another bowl mix together beet puree, eggs and vanilla.
  4. Mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients.
  5. Grease 9 inch baking pan.
  6. Pour batter into pan and bake 25 to 30 minutes at 350F or until center is fully cooked.
  7. Remove from oven, sprinkle with chocolate chips.
  8. ENJOY!
