Balancing Act in the New Year

Posted on

Well Joe and I are seeming to have some trouble balancing all the things we need to do in our lives: working out, cleaning the house, walking the dog, laundry, bills, vacuuming, etc. I don’t know why we feel so busy but we do.We don’t even have children!  We both are exhausted by the end of the night and still haven’t completed everything we wanted to do. Well, I do know why we are exhausted; the dog is giving us a run for our money with her energy level, which is out the roof most times! She has been getting up on average, four times, in the middle of the night. It is the oddest thing because as a 5 week old puppy she slept through the night and now, all of the sudden, she is up at 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, 4:30 and by that point I just get up with her! With all the chaos going on, Joe and I have decided to make an excel spread sheet of our chores:

DAILY SCHEDULE

Maybe this sounds anal, but Joe and I really needed a way to sort out our chores, and not feel so overwhelmed. We usually wait until the weekend comes and then run around like crazy people doing EVERYTHING in one or two days. By Sunday, we both look at each other and feel like we didn’t relax at all over the weekend. That’s what the weekend is for, right?

I hope this new method of chores works and I think the initials by the chore when it is done is a nice way to hold us accountable. Who knows, maybe it won’t last forever but I know one thing and that’s we need something to help us balance our lives a bit better. I really dislike running around trying to get everything done in a day! Cross your fingers for us. I will let you know how it goes.
